Is the Tesla Wall Connector Gen 1 suitable for registration?
The Tesla Wall Connector Gen 1 is not suitable for registration, because this model does not have a MID-certified meter.
What does this mean for you?
With the Tesla Wall Connector Gen 1 you cannot register at this time: in our assessment the model does not have a MID-certified meter. That meter must be built into the charge point at the factory, so this cannot be solved with a separate meter in the installation. If you do want to register, you need a model with an integrated MID meter.

Frequently asked questions about the Tesla Wall Connector Gen 1
- Does the Tesla Wall Connector Gen 1 have a MID-certified meter?
- No. In our assessment the Tesla Wall Connector Gen 1 does not have a MID-certified meter.
- Can I register the electricity charged with the Tesla Wall Connector Gen 1?
- No. Without MID-certified metering, the electricity delivered cannot be demonstrated to the standards required for registration.
- How do I know which variant of the Tesla Wall Connector Gen 1 I have?
- Manufacturers release variants under the same model name, sometimes with and sometimes without a MID meter. The rating plate on the charge point and the original invoice or delivery note provide certainty; when in doubt, ask your installer.
- Can the Tesla Wall Connector Gen 1 be made suitable after all?
- No. The MID-certified meter must be built into the charge point at the factory. A separate meter added to the installation later does not make the Tesla Wall Connector Gen 1 suitable for registration; that requires a model equipped with an integrated MID meter as standard.

Why a MID meter is mandatory
Anyone supplying renewable electricity to transport can have it registered in the Register Energy for Transport (REV) of the Dutch Emissions Authority. For every kilogram of CO2 emission reduction achieved in the chain, one Emission Reduction Unit (ERE) is credited. Fuel suppliers need those units to meet their fuel transition obligation and buy them; that is where the proceeds of registration come from.
Such a registration stands or falls with the substantiation: the delivery must be demonstrable with a measurement that is legally sound. The regulation therefore requires a meter that complies with the European Measuring Instruments Directive — the MID — and that is built into the charge point at the factory.
A charge point without a MID-certified meter often measures fine for personal insight, but the measurement is not suitable as a basis for registration. That is why the question "can I register with this charge point?" stands or falls with the meter the manufacturer has built in — not with the brand or the price.
